What makes jaguars such a tempting romance novel shifter class?
Jaguars prowl, ambush, pounce. There’s something sexy about the sleek, big cat’s movements, the growly growls, the twitch of the whiskers, sensing the air, feeling the vibrations of movement, seeing in the dark, smelling the pheromones a potential mate might give off. Sexy, endearing, loveable, and sought after. Who wouldn’t want a hot male jaguar to roam with in the rain forests of Belize, to protect, to play with in a big, kitty-cat way, to nuzzle and love? Who wouldn’t want a big cat like that to watch her back when she’s trying to take down the bad guys and make it right with the world for other jaguars, shifters and the like? They may not naturally choose exclusive mates like wolves, but these shifters do. And they’ve got all the right moves to make—both as humans and as jaguars.
Will this new series have any crossover to prior books?
We finally get Howard’s story! I always felt bad that everyone got the girl but him. He was an Enforcer with the jaguar agency that polices their kind, but then he becomes part of the United Shifter Force to help police both rogue wolf shifters not part of a pack and jaguars. So this is his story. Val is an Enforcer who doesn’t want a partner and he and his wolf partner have to guard her from afar. Only that doesn’t set well with either he or his wolf partner. They were in SEAL Wolf Undercover, trying to resolve issues between jaguars and wolves of the red pack, so we’ll get to see what happens when she’s separated from her wolf partner, and how the wolves can handle jaguars—who are a deadly adversary in their fur coats.
It’s also related to A Very Jaguar Christmas, where the United Shifter Force was formed when they felt a need for helping each other, wolves and jaguars. It was the first time that wolves and jaguars learned about each other when an Arctic wolf cub found his way to a jaguar daycare.
So both wolves and jaguars on the USF had found their mates, all but Howard, and as a hot jaguar, he had to find his match. Yet, each book is a standalone, so can be read on its own. I like to write them that way because I often pick up a book in the middle of a series and start reading, so I want to know I can do that without having to start at the beginning, unless I want to!
I love writing about both the wolves and the jaguars and it’s fun in this book to really showcase their differences in a situation where they’re dealing with rogues. How they can use their innate animal hunting behaviors to come up with the best scenario to win the fight, when this is something none of them are used to. It’s a challenge and the USF agents are ready to win. And then? They’re back to playing with their mates.
All I have to say is if you want to put a tiger in your tank, go with a jaguar instead. He...or she…will have you growling and purring for more. Are you ready?
