Today we have the pleasure of having Julie Ann Walker stop on over for an interview. Her 5th book in the Black Knights series is out and readers have a chance to win the whole set.
Hi Julie Ann Walker,
Thanks for joining me today.
What's your favorite movie quote? How have movies and pop culture inspired your writing?
Julie: My husband and I adore the movie The Big Lebowski. So, the go-to quote when anything goes awry is "That (blank) really tied the (blank) together." In the movie, it's the rug that really tied the room together, but we use the quote for everything. The coffee pot broke? "Dang, that coffee pot really tied the kitchen together." A zipper falls off a jacket? "Shoot! That zipper really tied that jacket together." You get where I'm going... ;-)
As for how movies and pop culture have inspired my writing, it's endless. My characters are constantly referencing movie quotes, song lyrics, current events, etc. I like my books to feel timely, my characters to come across to the reader as real and modern. And the best way I've found to accomplish that is to stuff the text with pop culture. Plus, it helps that I'm a bit pop culture-ist myself. I constantly quote movies and song lyrics, much to my husband's chagrin. *wink*
I know you are very well-travelled, but if you could travel anywhere right now, where would it be?
Julie: Ireland, without a doubt. I love that little green isle. The people, the pubs, the soda bread, the lamb stew, the fields of heather... *sigh* It's a little bit of heaven on earth.
Give us a little background: who are the Black Knights and how did they get started? Who's the sexiest Knight, in your opinion?
Julie: We say the Black Knights are grease-monkey motorcycle mechanics by day, Uncle Sam's last resort by night. Think Sons of Anarchy meets 007. They're hot spies on hot bikes. MEOW! And they got their start simply by me mashing up two of my favorite types of heroes... the brave, loyal military man and the badass biker boy.
As for who is the sexiest? Come on! That's like asking a mother to name her favorite child. I refuse to do it! LOL! I love all my Black Knights. And they're all sexy in their individual ways. See how easily I sidestepped that question? ;-)
Tell us more about the heroine of Born Wild, Eve Edens.
Julie: Eve Edens is shy and timid, but Bill brings out her wild side. Hubba, hubba! *wink* She's on the run from a shadowy figure bent on seeing her head on a spike. I like Eve in particular because we've seen her grow as a character and blossom as a woman throughout the series. She'd wonderfully vulnerable yet incredibly strong. More importantly, she comes across as genuine.
What makes Eve and Bill a couple readers will root for?
Julie: Their book is a second chance love story. What's not to root for? LOL! No, but seriously, they're both so intensely likeable that readers will find themselves shooting a fist in the air when they finally get their happily-ever-after...
Any little tidbits you can share about book 6, Hell for Leather?
Julie: The hero is Bryan "Mac" McMillan, the slow-talking, Texas-born, former Fed. The heroine is that loudmouthed, redheaded bartendress we've all come to know and love, Delilah Fairchild. There's a terrorist plot, a missing relative, flying bullets, hot bikes, and even hotter love scenes. You know... all the good stuff!
How many Black Knights books do you plan to write? Do you have any plans for other genres after that?
Julie: I'm currently contracted out to book eight in the Black Knights Inc. series. But I think there will be twelve books total. I can't stop writing until every BKI boy gets his happily-ever-after. For the future, it's more romantic suspense! The genre has everything I love... mystery, mayhem, thrills, chills, and hot lovin'. Why write anything else? ;-)
